My Story Goes Something Like

My story goes something like this: Things weren’t completely terrible with our money, but they weren’t what we knew they could be. We had a house and could buy motorcycles and cars to drive. However, there was never enough money left after paying the bills to treat ourselves or create the experiences we wanted for our kids. It felt like we worked honest jobs that paid decently. We should have had more than just a house and the expenses that came with it.

So, I decided to change that. I started enrolling in any program that taught about money and managing finances to live the best life possible. I took classes and seminars, talked to people, and read books. I even went to college and studied Accounting & Business (Money Matters). With each program and class, I learned more and more. Twenty years ago, we climbed our way out of a mountain of debt. It was the best feeling ever, only rivaled by the immense joy of paying cash for new vehicles or toys (like motorcycles).

Now, I want to give back and help other people get out of debt so they can live financially free too. Imagine the freedom of living without financial stress, the joy of treating yourself and your family without worry, and the peace of mind that comes from financial stability.

Shawn Federick

This is one of the revelations Rewa helped me with. Cash flow matters. My business degree brain wants to manage based on a carefully calculated and accurate accounting of profit and loss calculated at least monthly, and prepared promptly. The problem is I don’t know any small business owners that do this, unless you are large enough to have a bookkeeping department. When I looked into the Profit First method he convinced me that bank balance accounting is sufficient and effective for real time decisions. Provided you actually account for everything and set up enough accounts. Also accounting profit is a fiction in a lot of cases. Cash flow can be used to pay bills. You can’t always pay bills with accounting profit.

Rewa and I talked a lot during our appointments about what can and cannot be used as business tax write offs, and one thing we talked a lot about was how HSAs can be used for that purpose and also to benefit me being an independent contractor because it is hard to insure myself medically. We also discussed retirement accounts and that will change my future tremendously. She is setting me up for success, and I couldn’t tell her enough how much I appreciate her!
